Barrington Tops in the Upper Hunter Valley
Barrington Tops what mental images do these words conjure up? “unspoiled”; “majestic”; “breathtaking”; “incredible” – any one of these superlatives and more describes this unique World Heritage Experience.
A visit to the Barrington Tops area is fast becoming a popular alternative and there is a significant increase in recognition as this vast area is discovered. Towns and villages around the Tops however, still maintain that wonderful country atmosphere and friendliness which makes the area stand out from other more mature destinations
Our close proximity to the major markets of Sydney and the Central Coast is demonstrated by the fact that travelling one to three hours will bring you to the foothills of the Barrington Tops. This close proximity means less time travelling and more time spent on relaxing, exploring and escaping in the peaceful and natural surroundings of the unspoiled Barrington Tops.
The area centred on the famous Barrington Tops World Heritage listed National Park and is situated in the Gloucester, Dungog and Scone Shires.
Once here, people can either relax in the peaceful and tranquil setting, explore the hinterland and Barrington Tops National Park and historic main streets with charming country cafes and escape to their own patch of wilderness, or they can enjoy such diverse activities as canoeing, horseriding, fishing, skydiving or a relaxing game of golf.
Features of the area also include an array of farm gate producers selling local produce direct to consumers. From wineries to lavender and other Essentially Barrington products such as Barrington Beef and Barrington Perch, details are incorporated into the Dungog Farm Gate map and the Essentially Barrington Farm Trail. The opportunity to bring the agricultural experience around the Barrington Tops direct to our visitors provides a wonderful opportunity to broaden their tourism experience and provide them with fresh local produce. Fresh produce can also be sampled at the various restaurants and cafes throughout the Barrington Tops area thus enhancing the eating experience.
Other activities include the array of events held in the area. With over 50 events in any given year, choose from rodeos, country markets and festivals such as Shakespeare, Tocal Field Days and Pedalfest. The Dungog Pedalfast provides cyclists with the opportunity to experience the joys of the Williams River Valley forest and farmland and the small town charm of Dungog on the second weekend in September. The Annual Shakespeare on Avon festival takes place in the Gloucester valley, nestled in the foothills of the Bucketts Mountains. Shakespeare’s more lighthearted productions are highlighted along with markets and all the fun of the fair.
